"But I got another from Colt and his I can tell you about. I think there's something there because they are both such competitors." McCoy said he told Davis he plans to use the Heisman vote to come back next year more prepared in his senior season. "I just said everything happens for a reason," McCoy said. "God has a plan for me and this team. It's obvious I don't need to win it until next year."

Maybe Texas Fans Aren't Excited, Either

Maybe Texas fans aren't excited about the Fiesta Bowl either. According to the Austin American Statesman, 1,000 tickets remain from the Texas allotment of 17,500.

The Longhorns are doing a bit better than Ohio State, but still you would think Longhorn fans would be excited about an 11-1 team.

Perhaps it was the BCS screw-job, or the OU lovefest continuing with Sam Bradford winning the Heisman, but let's talk about the date.

MONDAY, January 5th.

How many people do you know can't go because it would be virtually impossible to get two more days off of work after being off for the holidays? I know the first of the month is my busiest time of the month work-wise, and my boss would probably laugh in my face if I requested the 5th and 6th of the month off.

I realize that the NFL playoffs are on Saturday and Sunday and you might not want to go up against those games, but work with us a little bit. Very rarely do they have a NFL game on that Sunday night. Even that date would be better than a Monday night immediately after the holidays.

Or better yet, have the game on the damn first of January like it used to be. You don't have to spread these games out, people are going to watch them regardless.

Murray, Granger to Miss Title Game

Yesterday came word that OU running back Demarco Murray will miss the national title game against Florida, and today comes word that DeMarcus Granger will also miss the game.

Some will call it karma, and will I may or may not agree with that, I really think it is just something about OU players that have a first name that starts with "Demar".

Buckeyes Not Keen on the Fiesta Bowl

Today comes the news that Ohio State has failed to sell all of their Fiesta Bowl tickets to donors and season ticket holders, so tickets will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday.

You certainly can't blame Buckeye fans for not being excited about traveling across the country for their fifth trip to Phoenix in seven years, but this just illustrates the fallacy of having pre-determined tie-ins for BCS bowl games.

Sure, some of them make sense. You want the SEC champion in New Orleans, and you want the Pac-10 champion in Pasadena. Even for tradition sake, I can handle the Big 10 champion going to the Rose Bowl.

But why does the Big 12 have to send its champion to the Fiesta Bowl? The closest conference school is Texas Tech, which is still a 785 mile drive from Lubbock. Why not send the Big 12 champion to the bowl with the most attractive match-up?

This year that would have been the Sugar Bowl against Alabama. There were reports yesterday that Utah had only sold 12,000 of its allotted 17,500 tickets, while those tickets would have been sold out in about 10 minutes by Texas fans.

Then you could have sent Utah to the Fiesta Bowl, a much more manageable distance for Utes fans, and could have invited Boise State to the Fiesta Bowl as well, and had a match-up of the undefeated non-BCS schools. Ohio State shouldn't be there, anyhow, and their fans act like they know it. Boise State fans also would have snatched those tickets up in about 10 minutes.

Anyhow, all of that makes too much sense. Which is never a consideration in college football.

Colt named Heisman Finalist

Texas QB Colt McCoy was named a finalist for the Heisman trophy yesterday, the first Texas finalist since Vince Young in 2005.

No Longhorn has won the award since 1998 (Ricky Williams), and no Longhorn quarterback has ever won the award.

Does Colt have a shot at it? The ever popular Rocky Mountain News poll (which has correctly predicted the winner in 18 of the previous 21 years), showed McCoy with a slight lead this week.

You have to figure it is a two horse race between Bradford and McCoy, since it is unlikely that the Heisman will ever go to the same player twice again. And if you look at it, who is more valuable to his team? Where would the Longhorns be without the efforts of McCoy this year?

I'm not the biggest fan of the Heisman trophy, it lost relevance to me in 2005 when Vince Young was clearly college football's best player but Reggie Bush ran away with the award. Bush was certainly deserving of the award, but the margin of victory was ridiculous. Bush received the second most first place votes of anyone in the history of the award at the time, which was a complete slap in the face to Vince Young, one of the most dynamic players to ever grace the college gridiron.

But yes, it would be nice to see another Heisman in Bellmont Hall.

Where is the outrage?

You know, I'm trying really really hard to get over all of this, because much like the 2006 NBA Finals, it will all be forgotten very very soon by the national media and fans.

But it REALLY bothers me that nobody, absolutely nobody, in the national media has taken Stoops to task on this "taking the high road" fallacy and the fact that he has run the score up on multiple opponents this year.

Instead, ABC announcers Brent Musberger and Kirk Herbstreit were just laughing about it and in awe of how great the Sooners are when they were throwing bombs up by 30+ points with three minutes left in the game.

Maybe there is outrage somewhere besides Austin for the way Stoops has handled this, but I haven't seen one inkling of it yet.

When did college football become professional wrestling? Perhaps it is fitting that this guy is OU's biggest fan.

Welcome to Phoenix

Well with the coaches poll coming out this morning and the Florida Gators comfortably ahead of the Longhorns, it appears that the Longhorns are certain to end up in Glendale for the Fiesta Bowl, likely against Utah or Ohio State.

What a load of crap.

11-1, beat Oklahoma, a great season seemingly out of nowhere, and we're left with either 2 loss Ohio State or a no-win situation against Utah.

Sigh. This whole last quarter of the football season has been one kick to the shorts after another. And the worst part about it?

We have to root for Florida in the championship game.

Yuck.
