Recruting: Texas Football Signs the #2 Class

I know we Texas fans are tired of being #2, but this one is a little more subjective, as the Longhorns signed what most experts believe to be the second best recruiting class in the country behind Florida this week.

Highlighting the class is Plano West's DE Jackson Jeffcoat and Ohio LB Jordan Hicks, both five star recruits that committed just one week ago.  I always wondered what it would be like to have Brian Orakpo and Derrick Johnson on one defense, and now we'll know.

The defensive corps in this whole recruiting class is just ridiculous.  The effects of Muschamp are really being felt here, as Texas snatched up Aaron Benson (LB), Taylor Bible (DT), Carrington Byndom (DB), Greg Daniels (DE), Ashton Dorsey (DT), Bryant Jackson (DB), Tevin Jackson (LB), and Reggie Wilson (DE), all four star recruits, and a couple three star recruits as well.  DeMarco Cobbs and Adrian Phillips, also four recruits, will also likely line up on the defensive side of the ball.

It is almost unfair, but I'll take it.  This defense will dominating and be one that the national pundits will drool over, book it.

On offense, the Longhorns loaded up at WR with the addition of Mike Davis (Dallas), John Harris (Garland), Chris Jones (Daingerfield), Darius Terrell (DeSoto) and Darius White (Fort Worth), all four star recruits.  White and Davis are the highlights of the group, as Mike Davis is called "Black Shipley" in recruiting circles while White has the opportunity to be one of the most dynamic return guys this school has seen as well as a force at receiver.

Connor Wood (Houston) and Case McCoy (Graham) will battle it out for either back-up to Garrett Gilbert or back-up to Sherod Harris, and Traylon Shead (Cayuga) has the opportunity to take control of a running back situation in flux.

All in all, a lot of experts believe that this is the best class that Mack Brown has signed since the 2002 class, which produced Vince Young and other cornerstones of the 2005 National Championship squad.  Some believe it might be even better than that class.

Better or worse, let's all hope they have the same success.
